Melbourne, Australia's second largest city, narrowly topped the Economist's list as the world's most livable city - for its many cultural attractions, large business community, and reputation as a major sporting centre.

Vienna, Austria:-

Coming second was the Austrian capital Vienna, noted for its culture, architecture, and well-planned urban spaces.

Vancouver, Canada:-

Vancouver, which had taken first place on the list for a decade, dropped down slightly due to losing marks only because of construction causing congestion on a major road connecting the city to others. Vancouver's residents weren't happy about the result - pointing out that the congestion is located over 50 miles away from the city.

Toronto, Canada:-

The second of three Canadian cities in the top five, Toronto is Canada's largest city and a major finacnial centre.

Calgary, Canada:-

Helsinki, Finland:-

Finland's historic capital, Helsinki, is not only the world's most northern major urban centre, it's also the only European city to make it into this top ten.

Perth, Australia:-

One of the world's most remote major cities, Western Australia's Perth is over 2,000 miles away from Sydney (it's actually closer to Jakarta in Indonesia) - but its isolation doesn't stop it making the list of the world's most livable cities.

Adelaide, Australia:-

On Australia's south coast, Adelaide is known both for its culture and sport and its status as a major industrial hub. It's also the fourth Australian city on the top ten list.

Auckland, New Zealand:-

Located on a strip of land between the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea, Auckland's mild climate, high employment and relatively affordable housing make it the fifth Antipodean city in the top ten, after the four Australian entries.
